Great Technology, Horrible Leadership

Pros

Company has great technology and potential to make ocean data collection safe, cheap and real-time.

Cons

Things other than the core technology- personal growth is discouraged and professional growth is non-existent (less that 3% of the company have received promotions). Pay is on the low side of the start-up scale and stock options are pitifully meager. Office politics are strong and there is a very noticeable and distinct "Us" and "Them" -if you are on the them side you will get get a knife in the back. Company culture is more interested in playing withe the cool technology than it is with making a good product or helping our customers succeed. This can make for fun days but not a great way to build a business or get the technology adopted. Very, very little time and energy is spend on anything other that marketing and R&D. However the most con of the cons is leadership- The rules don't apply to leadership and their pets- they can travel in style, order excessive and expensive wine, miss quota time after time after time, fail to make any progress on product development and there are no consequences. Leadership cultivates pets who are not expected to contribute in trade for fierce loyalty, and others end up shouldering the pets work. The sloppy leadership trickle down to the rank and file and you find that LRI rarely takes accountability for anything.. wrong products delivered, unfulfilled contracts, and personnel lawsuits are a result. Individuals too are held unaccountable...until they want to fire someone- 5 group layoffs in the last year, each one was promised to be the last...

Pros

Pay is on par with industry standards. Free food at office. Flexible work schedule. Work life balance is good. Those veteran employees who are still around are quite competent. Actual products are on par with industry competition. Potential for significant product improvement but so far this is mostly unrealized.

Cons

Significant turnover across company at every level including recent loss of CEO. Average new employment is less than 1 year. Senior leadership does not care about employees well being, training, nor career advancement. There is a pervasive lack of understanding of the industry they are in as well as a severe disparity in the things they say they can do vs what they are actually doing. Backstabbing/politicking is the way of life. Ethics are non existent even in business practices. All hiring is external so internal advancement does not occur.

Pros

Great product that could be used for such amazing things. The founders are passionate about the product.

Cons

Management is all over the map (by no fault of their own) due to the convoluted direction from exec staff. Different sets of rules depending on your department and manager. Weak leadership.
