Pros

Good pay, decent benefits, and the people I worked with the first 8 years were awesome.

Cons

Rushed, half-baked engineering, QA was overworked, understaffed, and literally hated by production. Hourly labor leadership was people with 45 years of seniority losing their temper and making threats. The salary side of things is the most ridiculous spectacle of cronyism, nepotism, and abhorrent incompetence. Good thing they only made a static display for the Regan library and just a prop for a Tom Cruise movie. I'm not surprised at Raytheon getting a recent contract instead. A tour of Space X Hawthorne kinda made Palmdale look like a meth lab.

Pros

Cool Product Line that supports the war fighter.

Cons

Crazy middle leadership, the directors (middle managers) are all trying to make themselves feel important. Excessive levels reverse discrimination.

Pros

Work life balance, the ability to work from home, highly intelligent coworkers, cool projects, decent pay and benefits.

Cons

It is hard to get anything done in a timely manner due to bureaucracy and the daunting number of process controls in place. The workload can be incredibly high at times. Very understaffed due to retirements and cost saving initiatives. New hires are thrown into critical roles with no real on the job training which sets them up for complete failure. Everyone in manufacturing is constantly being pushed to meet schedule need dates and eventually this burns employees out to the point where they leave or just stop caring. Management is a rotating cast of characters . People are constantly leaving for other better positions in the company. Ladder climbing is a real thing. It is hard to be friends with co-workers or technicians because of the constant push to get things done - everyone is stressed. Technicians commute in from far away and arrive at 4 am to avoid traffic. Support staff does not arrive until 6-7 am. That is where the resentment begins. Technicians on the whole are not friendly and sometimes openly hostile towards MEs in particular. Work life balance can be put in jeopardy if you are in a position where you are on the line to deliver something. Be ready to work 50-60+ hours regularly if you care about your work reputation and getting things done. Sink or swim is the name of the game at LM Space MMC in Sunnyvale.
