Pros

Weekly pay. Interesting work. Encouraged to look for other jobs within the company.

Cons

3 different managers all in different states from my work location. Assessment of work is a joke when your managers don't really see what you are working on. The higher up I moved in the company the less I found myself doing.

Pros

Offers the opportunity to work for large projects of vital importance to the nation. Pay and benefits are good.

Cons

This company works with a lot of old legacy practices and technology and, aside from a small percentage of individuals and a few pockets here and there, is not very innovative. A great many people want to avoid change altogether and actively resist it. This company is trying to go agile, but, aside from a few individuals, just doesn't get it. You're generally either under micromanagement or hit and run management. The company doesn't want to promote anyone except in rare cases. Work-life balance is supported in theory, but in practice you'll be given more work than you could ever possibly complete in a 40 hour work week.

Pros

As a software engineer, I rarely worked more than 40 hours per week. (can't say the same for all engineers, however; the test engineers often worked swing shifts and extra hours). The slower pace gave me the time to develop as a software engineer, while at work and outside of work.

Cons

Using software technologies that were 10-15 years old. Inconsistent capabilities between engineers. Some aren't very good. Feels really bureaucratic. Lots of annoyances that come with being in a high security environment: my building had no windows (not necessarily the case everywhere, though), no cell phones, firewall prevented access to e-mail sites like gmail and streaming sites like pandora.
