Lockheed - a good place to vacation from.

Pros

It is a steady job...while you have a contract. In my experience it is a very flexible place to work - each vacation request I submitted has been approved, sometimes with only a week's notice. Four weeks of vacation a year when you walk in the door is nice as well. Once in, it is hard to get booted from all I have seen.

Cons

The work is uninteresting, and the company is so big that your work rarely matters. Pay is low, industry-wise. The company is very top-heavy, and as they try to remedy this promotions are becoming harder to get.

The ability to learn different technologies and interact with truly brilliant professionals. A large organization with a world-wide presence that allows for individual career opportunities. Generous education benefits for advanced degree-work. Large information stores made available to employees to research solutions, or share information with peers.

Cons

Draconian and tedious compliance requirements. The feeling of being a number, or profit point to be maximized due to the size of the organization and the, at times, attitude of management. This is just an opinion and may be part of the culture of larger organizations, or multi-nationals.
