Lockton - Not the Last Best Place to Work!

Pros

Benefits and Pay (401K, medical, etc.)!

Cons

Management! Company is run by the "inner circle" and they all have huge egos - starting at the top! Don't see this changing anytime soon. Emphasis set on "youth" despite the fact that the "seasoned professionals" are the ones doing the work and keeping the company going. What happens when the "seasoned" leave or retire?? No more niche shoppe that's for sure and nothing there that would attract and maintain key personnel that the other brokers in Houston don't have. Be careful what you ask for - it all comes with strings!!!!

Pros

Manager and team are incredibly knowledgeable. Culture and volunteer opportunities are second to none. 401k is the best out there.

Cons

Income and bonus inequality between department and unfulfilled promises make for unmet expectations and high turnover. They will lure you in with false promises and then guilt/shame you into staying until you leave in tears.

Pros

- Collaborative / Supportive Team - Fantastic mentorship from all levels and genuine support across all aspects of life - Mutual Respect - Cultivates Talent - Accessible Leadership - Understands generational differences - Fairly predictive workload - Great access for building industry relationships and networking - Access and exposure to multiple clients (very important as a recent graduate) - Opportunities to champion items related to your interests that support the larger practice - Well-respected by clients and high client retention (the only time we seem to lose is when a client undergoes an M&A and our relationships are replaced) One neutral point is that the office you are hired into is enormously responsible for your experience. Many of the Pros and Cons I have noted are specific to the Washington, DC office which has a fantastic culture and unique 'family' environment.

Cons

- Promotion is determined mostly by timeline and not by skill level - Smaller office meant when someone left it resulted in a fairly significant increase in workload which can be discouraging - Salary is not as competitive with larger organizations for at least introductory levels especially considering the amount of time one works
