I’m really sorry that you had a bad experience. I’m also very sorry that you feel this way about the position. I would like to address a few of the points you made.
We have found that 50 contacts to prospective clients a day works best. (Typically, half of those contacts are to businesses we are already in communication with.) That makes for an average of 6 contacts an hour, which we don’t think is unreasonable for a sales position. A good portion of the day is spent researching potential industries that might benefit from our services, learning about digital marketing, and acquiring digital marketing certifications.
Some offices take hour lunches, and some choose to go for a half hour so they can take off earlier in the day. I started in sales, along with several members of our leadership team, and found it to be a great way to learn the industry and gain skills that can be used anywhere in life. I’m sorry we weren’t able to help get you into the groove more quickly, but I’m glad you enjoyed the people you worked with. We have won many Top Workplaces awards (from local newspapers, to national ones like Inc. Magazine), and these are all voted on by our employees.
We certainly don’t hire just anyone, but we do like to give as many people as possible the opportunity to succeed. The starting base pay is designed to be a cushion. Most of the compensation is in the form of an upfront and uncapped residual commission model. It’s the most aggressive commission model that I have seen in our industry and can be a great place for many to build a long-term career with a recurring book of business.
We have worked hard to make all of our practices transparent, but I’m going to review this with our leadership team to see where we can do better.
Again, I’m very sorry that you had a bad experience. I truly want to do everything possible to make sure nobody else feels this way. I appreciate the feedback and wish you the best in all of your future endeavors. -Mike W.
