Decent Place to Work as a Developer but Needs Improvement

Management has a true open door policy. Encouragement from architects to be involved in technical planning discussions. Lots of folks have been here for a long time. Good work/life balance.

Cons

Very tight with resources - penny wise and pound foolish at times. All work done in VMs and not enough memory/CPU so spending time waiting on tools a lot. Way too conservative on technology update - still using an SCM tool from the 90s. Some of the conservatism is coming from employees who have been there a long time. Career opportunities and feedback in employee reviews are almost non-existent. Pay increments are roughly keeping pace with inflation.

Pros

A lot of knowledge is available due to tenure. Most everyone is great to work with.

Cons

R&D remains in a heavily protected silo. Some departments work 24x7x365. Very flat organization with no opportunity.
