Pros

Work goes at one's own pace and your coworkers are typically normal people who are just looking to make some money at their job rather than aspire to something more ambitious. Some of the people are truly interesting to talk to; there's a large variety of backgrounds meshing together here.

Cons

People go at their own pace here, which can mean either hyper strict supervisors and relaxed, unreliable coworkers, or go-with-the-flow supervisors and high standard coworkers. It takes weeks for any paperwork to be processed. Bureaucracy at its finest. Unless you fill the requirements for hiring completely, you will be ineligible for consideration.

Stay away from Child Support

Pros

The only pros to working for the county are the benefits and getting paid twice a month. Other than that, the cons outweigh the pros.

Cons

Well for starters, management is horrible. The department is ran by petty, childish women who do not follow procedures or policies. Supervisors do not have your back and instead, are only interested in saving their own behinds. You're a threat if you possess an advanced degree. Some of the supervisors or heads are so childish that they will find any way possible to get you into trouble. If you need help, don't expect to receive any at all and if you do, it's not helpful. Working for Child Support has been the worst job I have ever had in my entire professional career. The environment is completely hostile and negative. Stay away from this department!
