Sometimes they are unwilling to spend on value added areas, unless there is a direct and extremely obvious commercial value. I think this could be a fatal flaw in a increasing competitive market.

Even though they offer fair pay, the hours worked are very long and expected. Very little or no training is given. There is no life outside of work. In addition, you can expect favoritism, unnecessary drama and corporate politics (even though employees are expected to uphold corporate values). You will have a hard time in your career if you don't "play along". Those that are not favored are definitely shunned out and it will impact your advancement. Advancement opportunities are very slim. Most advances are done with a title and pay change but no change in actual work. Employee surveys do not seem to be reliable because employees who give a negative mark will be pointed out. Communication is lacking among departments which can present problems.
