Pros

Challenging, eye-opening; you work really hard, but it's worth it; you are not cutting edge - you reach beyond the cutting edge

Cons

Steep learning curve, not much time to enjoy all the opportunities offered, competitive atmosphere can be off-putting to some people

Pros

Substantial flexibility in hours, amazingly talented & intelligent community, great gym facilities (climbing wall, pool, basketball courts), emphasis on learning, fast-paced, free classes for employees

Cons

Salary was pretty low, and there was sometimes too much to do and not enough people who knew how to do it (i.e., easy to get burned out).

Pros

Work with smart and hard working individuals. Access to best resources available and abundant professional opportunities. The scientific environment of Boston is hard to match, perhaps San Francisco comes second close.

Cons

The environment in my lab is pretty bad. Everyone is overworked and stressed because our PI is extremely demanding every once in a while someone "falls through the cracks". I have worked before in environments where the standard is high, but the PI was relaxed. That makes a whole difference.
