Pros

Lots of things happening everyday. Lots of opportunities to learn and meet people doing interesting stuff. Challenging and rewarding job.

Cons

Long hours. Little pay and limited benefits. There is very little guidance to stay in academic world. No clear transition from postdoc to research scientist or other positions.

Pros

The people here are great to work with, and the environment is stimulating. There is always a great variety of interesting events going on around campus if you look for them.

Cons

If you're a postdoctoral fellow with your own fellowship funding, you don't get the same benefits as postdoctoral affiliates, who count as employees. Fellows only count as "affiliate" status, which means they end up paying much more for health insurance, the campus gym, and so on. It's unfortunate, and doesn't seem to me to make much sense.
