Pros

Highly dynamic position that requires extensive research experience and broad spectrum of knowledge in various fields. Besides the ability to conduct own research, collaborating with other researchers and supervise graduate students are also part of the duties. Relatively relax and flexible work environment.

Cons

Low salary, and relatively low pressure. Everyone in the academia doing their own job, lack of chance to improve inter-person skills.

Pros

There is a lot of personal satisfaction. I manage my own time and am granted a lot of freedom.

Cons

I work way too many hours. If you divide my salary by the number of hours that I work, then I'm sure that I make less than minimum wage.
