Pros

Benefits like vacation (2 weeks first year, 3 after that and they let you accrue a lot of time off before you have to use it). Tuition reimbursement is great and they pre-pay $750 of the tuition for your first class.

Cons

There isn't much room for advancement for administrative assistants so you're pretty much pigeonholed into that role for your department, even if you excel in other areas, like web design.

Pros

There are many young scientists for graduate students to look up to; collaboration is encouraged; work-life-balance is definitely possible if you make the effort.

Cons

It seems that, with waning student acceptance rates, students are accepted who don't fit the description of the desired graduate student by scientists needing to expand their labs/research teams. This can be a great opportunity for some, but potentially a very non-ideal career move for others.
