Pros

Everyone at MIT is excited about the ongoing research going on in their labs and others at the institute. Collaboration is a positive, whether it is among students taking a class or labs doing research together. This is especially true for the Biological Engineering Department (Course 20), where the interdisciplinary subject matter benefits from students and faculty from diverse backgrounds working together in close collaboration.

Cons

The campus is "quirky" at best and drearily industrial at worst. The libraries are nothing to brag about, and the student-body ammenties and facilities are unimpressive. MIT is not a liberal arts school; science/engineering research and coursework are by far the most important assets of the institute.

Pros

Broad, deep, and dynamic intellectual atmosphere.

Cons

Salary-to-cost-of-living ratio is much lower than at many competing schools due to Cambridge's high cost of living. Hard to stand out because everyone around you is so awesome.

Pros

Prestige. Benefits great for working professionals who support growing families, but significantly less so for those who don't.

Cons

New hires almost all fresh out of school. Experienced professionals who offer different perspectives and valuable experience are not nearly as aggressively sought after.
