Pros

As a graduate student, if you find the right lab, you can really focus on learning and doing fundamental research all day which is very unique compared to many things after undergrad.

Cons

As a graduate student, you must accept that your salary will be much lower than industry. If you find a lab focused on other things, you may spend a lot of time doing things you don't like or don't directly lead to your learning.

Pros

Incredibly smart professors and students. Fair compensation

Cons

Biology PhD's are very long! (particularly mouse work) Professors are so busy that they don't have a lot of time for advising.
