Good benefits, low pay

Pros

More laid back than your average corporate environment and the benefits are great. There are definitely some great people that work here.

Cons

The salary is going to be a lot lower than what you'd make at any corporate place in the area and they're not big on promoting people. A lot of people seem to leave MIT in order to advance their careers.

Pros

it's a great place to do your research and learn a lot. the stipend is just enough to get by in Cambridge, but not enough to make even minimum student loan payments or save anything. health care is great, but better dental would go a long way.

Cons

nearly every student is white, straight, male and middle class. even though MIT makes a good show of supporting people outside of that demographic, in practice, there are a lot of awkward moments and microaggressions between whtie male students and everyone else. it doesn't help that the student newspaper, in the interest of being 'balanced' pubishes overtly homophobic and racist articles.

Pros

MIT is a great school and place to work. There are lots of opportunities for professional development and options to pursue almost any hobby.

Cons

Low pay given number of hours worked and cost of living in Boston/Cambridge. However, this is a common problem for graduate students across the nation.
