Pros
your colleagues and students are stimulating and brilliant. you are surrounded by the best and brightest, and the facilities are the best in the world. it is truly one of the most inspiring learning and teaching environments.
Cons
while the environment is inspiring, it is also extremely harsh. misogyny, racism, and the old boy's network are the rule. teaching is not prioritized. further, if you spend too much time in the classroom you make the tenured professors look bad and are ostracized by the faculty. while MIT is a place for new academic ideas old bureaucracy reigns and fresh air is rarely allowed inside... unless of course it is already vetted, male, conforming air, and then it is welcomed with wine and cheese.
