Pros

- As far as graduate programs go, it pays a lot. - Location is great. - Surrounded by intelligent, curious people. - MIT is unique in that, despite its prestige, the students are a lot less ego-driven than at similarly-ranked schools. Everyone is down to earth and respectful of one another. - There is a strong drive towards better work-life balance than is typical at other universities (think Berkeley, where everyone seemed miserable when I visited). This seems to prevent burnout, and students are still successful despite gaining a balance like this.

Cons

- Not really sure yet. I've only been here a few months, and I am very happy here. Cambridge is expensive, so I'd prefer a higher pay, but I am able to live relatively comfortably on the salary I receive.

Pros

Flexibility to work from home on some days of the week. Non-formal, friendly, collegial environment. On campus events for staff that promotes well-being.

Cons

Departments can be very disorganized. If you're grant-funded, check in regularly to see if funding is truly available. Neglectful supervisors - you need to manage your supervisors so they stay on task as managers.
