Poor senior leadership

Pros

Direct management is excellent, especially given all they’ve been asked to deal with in the past couple years.

Cons

Senior leadership refuses to be honest with employees about the decisions they’re making, often attempting to spin major negative changes as positive. Senior leadership is also condescending to employees when asked important questions.

Pros

+ Ability to do impactful work for the Sponsor, while being a trusted advisor and not having to "drum up" business due to the not-for-profit nature and operating as an FFRDC. + Flexibility to drive your own career in terms of what types of skills you want to hone, while also being engaged in many that you don't know you need (at the time) due to the small-team nature of most work. + Great caring individuals at the worker level whom you can develop friendships with. + Good benefits for parental leave. + Middle/senior management up to Director level is engaged and care about their people, but are often limited in actions by Corporate micromanaging.

Cons

- Lack of transparency at executive level - Depleting benefits in terms of Paid-Time-Off - Cutting Holidays - Capped pay-raises that don't outpace or begin to approach inflation - Lack of focus on Revenue generating staff - Deprioritization on retaining subject matter experts (technological, and Sponsor-based) that have long made MITRE the place to be and for Sponsors to go to - No benefit to longer tenured employees make job-hopping much more approachable than it used to be, depleting camaraderie

Pros

Decent pay, but compared to other companies definitely on the lower end. Depending on the supervisor, good work life balance.

Cons

I have not had a great experience currently at MITRE. I have been dealing with a dictatorial supervisor who constantly works to micromanage all aspect of our lives, and the company culture is extremely political. You could be a superstar of an employee but unfortunately if you are not friends with the right people, you will NEVER get a promotion. The current corporate side of the company run by Jason P. have completely destroyed the once former objective interview process into a fully subjective promotion system. Corporate complains about offering employees free food as well as other services free compared to us having to pay for them (pre-covid we had to pay for all food in cafeteria) however considering they are going on and on about wanting to compete in the private sector and have been slashing our retirement benefits, planning on removing the free food and other amenities, I just don't see how anyone in this day and age would pick mitre when benefits are now not only on part retirement and health with any other company, other companies offer stock options and further room for growth. The mitre today is not the same mitre I came too 3 years ago, and its unfortunate to see the current corporate leadership destroy the company.
