Pros

Competitive pay, great benefits and work/life balance, flexible schedule

Cons

- Management is overly incompetent, reactionary, and has poor vision. - MITRE very top heavy with executives who are functionally useless. - No real deliverables, just a paperwork job. - MITRE work adds very little value to the government programs they support. - Upper echelon consists of spin doctors (especially HR) who are experts at managing the company's image.

Pros

Work / life balance is excellent. The work obviously needs to get done, and there is crunch time when needed, but in the nearly 10 years I have been here, it's happened only twice. For an engineer this has the experimental nature of academia, without the issues that brings. We make prototypes, so no issues with manufacturability. And at the end of the day, the work we do matters.

Cons

Compensation could be better. They play with the titles to shift the curve, and if I want to make more money I will have to change companies.

Pros

incredibly wide scope of work varying from research and prototyping to fielded work (though rarer). depending on project/department, you are often able to work on multiple projects at once if desired.

Cons

the necessary amount of red tape that you must traverse around with government funded work. projects sometimes come under budgeting issues but my employment never felt at risk - there's always more work and other projects available. this doesn't mean that you can't keep focusing on a specific technology/skill though because there are almost plenty of projects that need your technical skill and can actually be a great boon too if you want to be a well-rounded, well-traveled engineer.

Thank you for your feedback. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the breadth and scope of projects available to you while you were working at MITRE. While priorities on funded work can shift, we are happy that you always had other projects to work on and felt secure in your position. We are continuously reevaluating recruiting and retention methods and appreciate your perspective.
