Pros

Great work subject matter, coworkers, and project. Can work on wide variety of project across the company for different government sponsors and for internally funded R&D.

Cons

They cut 5 days of paid time off for employees there 9+ years. Previous PTO policy was competitive with similar companies (Raytheon, Capital One, government agencies, civilian military, other FFRDCs or national labs, Google, Microsoft, Facebook). At the same time, max accrual was cut by 80 hours and we only had 30 days to get below the limit or we would stop accruing. Because of this, I lost several additional days that did not accrue. They also cut 4 days of civic time. CEO and senior leadership seem deaf to the impact this has on employee morale and how this effects staff's personal lives.

Pros

Everyone I meet from Project Leadership down is VERY smart and capable and know things I don't know, which makes the technical work great. Impactful work supporting important missions. Good work life balance. Great parental leave

Cons

C-Suite leadership, namely CEO, destroying morale with bad policies and lack of transparency and honesty. Attrition is rising. MITRE used to be a company that was mostly late-career senior folks, and now seems to be more early-career. Cutting time off benefits for employees with >9 years at the company very clearly indicates they aren't interested in retaining the most experienced staff. It seems salaries and time off don't keep up with other FFRDCs
