Used to be a dream job, now just a job

Pros

Great work-life balance. Cool work opportunities. Colleagues generally smart, talented people. Used to be a dream job where you'd spend your entire career. Now it's a job where I work.

Cons

Every announcement from management sinks the company further. The CEO seems to despise his own employees, and most of senior leadership acts the same way. Benefits have been repeatedly slashed. Layoffs are done in secret. Pretty much everyone I know is depressed about the future of the company and updating their resume. A lot of the most talented people I know have already left. It's baffling and really sad.

Pros

There is always interesting work and I have fun with my tasking.

Cons

They have cut benefits numerous times. Senior management is out of step with employees who actually do the work. Senior management treats us like idiots by announcing that decisions like the one made today (to cut hybrid employment benefits) with an air like they're doing us a favor. They announce they cut PTO to keep healthcare benefits, they cut healthcare benefits so we can keep a flexible work schedule and now they say we can't have a flexible work schedule. I'd be offended that they're blatantly lying to us if I didn't think that senior management has no actual idea of what they're doing either.

Pros

Interesting, impactful work; smart, motivated peers; unique opportunities for research and personal development

Cons

Corporate leadership under the most recent CEO is inconsistent, condescending, and uncertain. Executive leadership refuses to explain the reasons or mentality of current growth strategy to employees - claims company is doing great financially while cutting benefits to experienced staff. Staff at large are increasingly discontent and concerned about the direction the company is heading, which can seemingly only be seen or understood by the executive leadership. Leadership team grandstands on frequent company wide calls, introducing new VP after new VP, but refuses to answer meaningful questions or address concerns. CEO goes off-script and is arrogant and condescending in what replies are provided, claiming we have no right to complain because he is also losing vacation days when benefits are cut (while getting a large annual raise). Major decisions are seemingly made on a whim, like attempting to force a large swath of the company to use one week of paid-time-off, only to backtrack at the last second because of unpopularity. All while refusing to fully explain why it is necessary. Or, claiming to have evaluated a reduction in holidays "very carefully" only to discover that whoops, it is illegal to not give us Labor Day off. The impression is one of major decisions being made without care, without foresight, and without proper communication to those that they affect.
