Pros

If you don't want to work hard or be proud of your projects, this is the place for you. If you are getting ready to retire, you will fit right in.

Cons

MITRE has fallen well behind industry in research and become a pseudo-consulting firm. I am part of a strategy and transformation department, and we waste more tax dollars than the government. In my experience, very few people show up to the office. If they do, they arrive 1-2 hours late and leave 1-2 hours early, all while billing 8 hours to the government. It has been similar to my military service. When I brought up concerns about quality of work and time billed, I was threatened and pressured to leave. There is a gap in mid-career professionals because the older employees will not accept other points of view or a faster pace. Change has been promised, but none has come.

Pros

Opulent buildings, offices, amenities. Very high end atmosphere. Smart people but don’t know mission space very well. They hire people like themselves so be very introvert at interview. Very nice location to work. You never have to leave during the day. Everything is there.

Cons

Much of the atmosphere I think is for show because when you try to get resources the answer is always that there isn’t any money. The real reason is there isn’t money unless you a friend of somebody who holds resources. I do not feel valued as an employee and interviewers were rude. That should have been a sign. I felt more valued at a start up with few resources but a common goal. The only goal I see at Mitre is to increase revenue. I thought that was the opposite of the goal.
