      Mixed Feelings

      Pros

      MITRE values work-life balance, and does not expect overtime. The environment encourages leadership, and employees that push themselves are rewarded. Innovation is valued, but is frequently self-directed.

      Cons

      One of my roles was a system engineer on an Air Force program. MITRE has a schizophrenic personality, attempting to bend over backwards to please the Government customer, while urging them towards technical improvements. The balance is very difficult to achieve. The organization is spread across such a wide-variety of work programs that "ranking" employees comes down to a popularity contest. Innovation is encouraged, but unstructured to such a large degree that most research efforts end up wasted.

      Pros

      The company is an amazing place as far as a starting point. Just getting into the field to get your feet wet, this is your place. They also offer the capability to obtain more certifications if you pass a preliminary test they pay for the actual test.

      If you're looking for structure or long-term focus or advancement, this is not the place
