Great benefits, great pay, with some annoyances

Pros

MITRE offers great starting salaries and lots of benefits including flexible work schedules and retirement plan matching after the first year.

Cons

Expect to be dealing with federal government bureaucracy. Additionally, since it's near DC, there's nowhere you can live and have a pleasant commute.

Pros

The people are very collaborative. Always willing to work with you on just about anything. Company focus on work life balance is great, but often times dependent on the client needs. Benefits are pretty good. Company is constantly trying to keep engaged with its workforce. People generally treat you like an adult and do not micromanage you. you are encouraged and generally free to explore around the company for opportunities that you want to work on regardless of your organizational home.

Cons

Government client can be slow to work with. Salary gains are small to non-existent. You don't always get to focus on one skillset that you may want to perfect. You need to work on what is available, but the upside to that is that there are many opportunities. Timing is sometimes the key determining factor. while you can spread your wings in different types of work, advancement is slow. not really a place where you can "move up".
