Pros

Very professional organization with high quality employees. I enjoyed my time with the company. Pay was fair with really good benefits.

Cons

Collaboration and information sharing were highly encouraged, however, the way managers measured this was a bit elementary and should be seriously reviewed.

Some good - some not so good

Pros

1) Most importantly, the opportunity to work on and make contributions to solving problems of national import 2) Excellent health benefits (although as in most companies more costs are being shouldered by the employee) 3) Most managers are top-notch (treating employees with the utmost respect / having a highly developed work ethic / being gifted technically) 4) Opportunities to occasionally take courses at off-site locations taught by subject matter experts

Cons

1) Promotions - limited promotion opportunities for those who don't want to become managers. No technical ladder. The result is that many employees who are technically gifted but not interested in management see their career flat-line; meanwhile a small subset of managers lack basic knowledge of elementary mathematics, physics, and engineering. 2) Pay - noncompetitive. Pay increases for more senior members of the technical staff is in the form of bonuses (not raises). The amount of increase is strongly correlated to one's salary as compared to the median for one's position, irrespective of one's performance for a particular year. 3) Management accountability - as noted above, the vast majority of managers are top-notch. A very small subset ignore the people that they are leading, or if they do interact, demean them and subject them to public ridicule, with the result that people either get off their projects, or leave Mitre. There is no apparent oversight of the 'rotten apples'.

Pros

Systematic, organized, no other words could be added to the pros.

Cons

I had a crazy upper manager who got involved in the work without knowing any knowledge about it. Spontaneous, jumping on others.
