      At MITRE you're working in the public interest - acting as a trusted adviser to the government. You work with very smart people who are subject matter experts.

      Cons

      Sometimes government bureaucracy can be frustrating

      Depends on Where you Work in MITRE

      Pros

      Great benefits, work-life balance. It is easy to make your own schedule and plan work around your life. There are programs like the MITRE Innovation Program where anyone can apply for funding for research and development.

      Cons

      Many departments seem very insular. Your work satisfaction will be dependent on which department you end up in. You might get an amazingly motivating, enthusiastic department head or supervisor who cares about your growth and development, or you might get a good ol' boy who's just counting down the days to retirement. For things like the innovation program - it's hard to get anywhere without management that has already been successful in the program or is otherwise deeply invested in your success.
