Pros

fantastic benefits and work life balance, decent compensation, interesting project work, ability to move around/try different workstreams to find what you like (especially useful for early career folks) benefits include: - 10% match on 401(k) after 1 year - paid caregiver/parental leave ( up to12 weeks) - good health insurance choices - paid medical leave (up to 12 weeks) - 40hrs paid time to volunteer

Cons

CEO/executive leadership has started a recent power trip that is driving out great managers/leads at lower levels and really souring the company environment overall. I used to sing MITRE's praises and have referred several friends to work here, which I regret that now, given the rapid negative change in company morale/culture.

Pros

Made some great friendships over 18 years and did some very impactful engineering work. For the work that Mitre employees do, they have a great deal. The parking lot is practically empty on a Friday. Most of the competent engineers have left in the past 3-5 years.

Cons

Since the current CEO has taken over, the company has deteriorated. managers are just sucking up to those above them. If anyone speaks out, their life is made miserable and they are pushed out. Recently about 15% of VPs, directors and managers were suddenly cut on a Friday, some after 20-40 years at the company. Yes, some of them needed to be let go while others were very capable. Some managed to survive but should have been cut. Many incompetent middle level managers . The CEO needs to be removed. The board needs to step in and hire a capable CEO who will truly manage the company as an engineering company. The MITRE hourly rates are way too high and thus the company is not competitive on an hourly rate basis and also on a work impact basis for the government customers. Existing staff are finding themselves without project work. You have to fend for yourself. Too many layers of management like group leaders, project leaders,co-department managers, department managers and on and on and on. You get the picture. Many who are age 50 and above are just trying to make it to retirement age with just doing the minimum. You will definitely lose your skills if you join Mitre and you will not be able to find another job. In te past 3 years I managed to get hands-on technical skills that are marketable across multiple job sectors.

Pros

MITRE provides a great work environment and good salaries and benefits. I've been proud to work there for many years for the work we do on behalf of the nation. The MITRE covid response has been a model for all other companies to follow.

Cons

the Sr. management team, led by Jason Providakes is working to turn MITRE into a commercial type company. Leadership is destroying the MITRE culture that was so long a valued part of the company's legacy. We don't need to be like everyone else. And the recent reorganizations of the past few years along with mass lay offs and forced retirements has caused a huge drain on the talent pool within the company. Its been very sad to see so many dedicated, smart people, and their wealth of MITRE experience and knowledge, just tossed aside like they don't matter any more.
