Interesting Concept, Poor Execution

Pros

goverment contracts which tend to mean long term work assignments interesting projects, work looks very well on your resume later

Cons

No local work, so extensive travel is required Employees must fund their own work related expenses, and then submit to be reimbursed. Reimbursement sometimes takes a considerable time. It is advisable to have at least a 3K line of credit available that you can devote exclusively to work related expenses staggering turnover of staff, often times this is blamed on the people leaving, however this is not entirely true. People are laid off at a high rate, and they also quit at a high rate. The business is risky, but it does not necessarily have to be as intense as management makes it. There is really no ability to move up within the company, the best you can hope for is an impressive project line up to put on your resume to help secure a higher position elsewhere. A few of the individuals on the leadership team have a rather harsh way of dealing with people, and their angry outbursts can have an impact on the moral of the entire group

Pros

MOCA has a very talented workforce. It is a real pleasure to engage with and learn from some of the finest people in the industry. MOCA is heavily involved in unique and challenging projects. The company thrives on innovation and doesn't back away from complex or difficult problems. It prides itself in being able to do what others shy away from. Some people may find that uncomfortable because it isn't "safe". Personally, I draw energy from it and I wouldn't want it any other way. MOCA expects a lot from its employees. If you're capable and a hard charger, you'll create your own opportunities and go places here. If you prefer being a wall flower, this probably isn't the place for you. MOCA is entrepreneurial. Formal processes and red-tape are in short supply. We do what it takes to get the job done and if it means straying outside of traditional job descriptions, so be it. There isn't much hand-holding here and there is a lot of drinking from the fire-hose, but in the end exceptional work is recognized and rewarded.

Cons

Establishing a work-life balance can be a real challenge here. Vacations do sometimes get interrupted and nights/weekends are not always your own. This isn't a 9 to 5 kind of place. MOCA is spread out across the country. Many offices and jobsite have less than 5 people. Building a sense of community and belonging can be difficult. You may at times feel like you are going it alone without much support even though there may be others going through the exact same experience elsewhere in the company. MOCA is able to turn on a dime and that can be really unsettling as an employee when you're not privy to the decision making process. Although management seems to try to be transparent, the reasons behind some of their decisions are not always clear and sometimes may even be misunderstood. That creates an environment ripe for gossip and mistrust.

Unprofessional

Pros

Employee salaries are decent, and the first two to three months for new hires are great. After the first two to three months, employees will start to notice the Cons listed below.

Cons

management seemed quite unprofessional in terms of making decisions. decisions regarding new hires, new internal programs, bonus distribution, were made in a rash, hasty fashion, with little thought toward the future. the company continues to have extremely high turnover - something management and the board should have taken note of and tried to remedy long ago.
