Pros

The work is challenging and stimulating; technically well-educated and competent employees make working there interesting. Salary is midline, benefits look good on the surface.

Cons

CEO oversight of even the most trivial decisions and the micro-management culture filters to lower echelons. There is no respect for the employee life-work balance. Superiors call late into the evening expecting you to respond; 60-80 hr work weeks are the norm and mandatory weekends are common. Evidence of discriminatory practices. Top positions rarely filled from within.

Pros

It still has a pulse.

Cons

Not competitive on salary, but decent benefits. Too many unqualified members of the executive management team, compared with too many who don't get the recognition they deserve. The CEO is one of the most egocentric people I've met in my career. His approach to employee motivation is to openly humiliate people into his way of thinking. New ideas are immediately dismissed as crazy. If you're a woman, forget about it, you don't have a chance with this guy.

Pros

Challenging projects, relatively flexible work schedule, great product (ADAMS) with solid customer base.

Cons

Toxically incompetent dinosaur-era mentality management imported from the NASTRAN side, which is in total disarray. They're willing to sacrifice any successful product to save NASTRAN, which is a has-been. Company didn't have any direction for quite a while. They were only growing by acquisition, which in the end didn't work out. The company ended up being acquired by a financial group. Lay offs and outsourcing ensued. They leaked most of their talent. Not so great benefits or salary. No clear direction to grow if you're on the technical side. Nepotism is the norm at the upper management levels.
