Developers receive a lot of night calls for production support. Currently, many systems are poorly documented, and the employees who developed them have left the bank. Communication between teams is very difficult unless you have personal contacts on the team you need. Promotions are not received unless applied for in MUFG's systems along with the yearly review process, and only happen on that timeline. The bank is also no longer friendly to remote work; I was let go along with many others as part of Return to Office initiatives. Other previous pros are being cracked down on as well. Early in my time at MUFG there was little micromanagement, and my work was judged on its results. Now there is increasing pressure to log your work activity every minute of every day in JIRA, which eats up actual working time and promotes a workstyle of "do nothing, say you did everything" in my opinion. There is also politicking going on among management which is resulting in a lot of team reshuffling and other instability. And I am also concerned about the push to introduce AI into as many facets of the bank as possible. The pressure is growing, but as a highly regulated sector, I think the bank should take more caution with AI products.
