Pros
Opportunities for advancement when you work hard and are competent. 20%employee discount. Stable company. There are a lot of resources out there for their employees and customers you just have to know where to look to find what you need.
Cons
NOT enough staff to cover all the needs on most days. Sales associates are expected to clean fitting rooms, connect and assist with all the customers in their department, clean up their department and also be cashiers and tell all customers about Macy's credit card, sale events, charity events going on and get paid between $8-10 hour. Then when they are stuck behind the register ringing customers, the fitting rooms become a mess, the customers on the sales floor don't get the help they need causing the connect and assist scores to go down. The next issue is the planners in NY don't trust the planners from the different districts, so the planners have to ask for the same things over and over again until we get the stock we need. Which in many instances the stock never comes, they say it is MYmacys but it doesn't feel like the response is quick enough to make it a truly my macys concept. When the customer requests and the sell thru and stock levels all indicate that there is a need do something about it. Stop cutting out help and stop adding more and more to the piles of stuff for management to do. The store managers that I have been around can't get out of their offices because they are on their computers all day reading and responding to emails and webinars and conference calls. Hire competent people and let them run the store and free up more time so they can be on the floor seeing the issues and giving the positive feedback to the associates.
