A waist of time

Pros

The people, sence it's a small town Macy's you get to know a small group of customers really well. There are very few days that I go in and have a bad customer.

Cons

The people you work with. I have worked with some great people but sadly a majority of those who do well here are the laziest people you will ever meet. Passing off their work load onto others, focusing their time to selling (stealing customers) to increase their commission rate. But when it comes time to to stock work the magazines come out, texting on their phone and so on and so forth. It's sad when a manager knows where to go look for an associate...Asleep in one of the dressing rooms, and yet they don't receive any sort of discipline for it. I've been trying for 2 years now to become full time, my score card and work ethic is outstanding but apparently never good enough. If you are lazy you'll do well, if your hard working please don't waste your time.

Nothing to build a career upon, but a decent job

Pros

Decent training helps to create quality associates that know how to handle most situations, a nicer place to work in than certain other retailers, associate discount events can save you up to 30%, recovery hours after closing are not nearly as bad as other retailers

Cons

Most time dedicated to work (terrible balance between work and personal life), holiday hours can be exhausting, from time to time incompetence in senior managers (the people that are supposed to be relied upon in times of need)

Disheartening

Pros

Flexibility if you need a part-time job Corporate partnership is commendable

Cons

Local management is very poor: unable and unwilling to balance metrics requirements with employees needs. Lack of professionalism and knowledge of local management is dismal. Employees are too afraid of retaliation to voice their real concerns. Too many changes too fast for local management to assimilate.
