Pros

The scheduling is easy, as long as you stay on call. The associate discount is great for Christmas shopping. You get to meet some wonderful people on holiday who love to shop at Macy's The other employees, I have made some nice friends.

Cons

The used-car salesman mentality, concerning the Macy's credit card. Most of the customers already have a card, and are committed Macy's shoppers. Some of the tactics encouraged by Macy's are, not in prospective credit cardholders interest. The associates are harassed daily to open more cards and will try to open cards for customers over and over again. this results in a lower credit score for the applicant. The other con is the lack of attention to what the customer really wants, pleasant salespeople and a clean attractive store environment. Macy's no longer employs a recovery staff and as a result, the store is messy. The dressing rooms are a disgrace. The sales associates do try to keep them clean, but often a department is understaffed. The compensation is also very low.

Pros

Is a good company with solid financials and direction for future growth. I worked in a large successful store and they had a good management team that provided solid direction for the employees. There also was little politics in management. The company also has a mentor program to help entry level employees develop. Weekly paychecks and the 20% employee discount (on top of advertised sales) were a nice benefit. The benefit package was good, covering health, dental and many of the other benefits typical to the modern workforce. If you work in the administrative areas, like I did, you can gain a lot of experience working in a fast paced environment. Overall, it is a good company to work for, especially if you are in the right position or if you have a passion for sales.

Cons

Most of the cons I experienced were related to the position I was in. The position I worked in, administrative support, had no training program and leadership/direction was lacking. Pay was well below average for administrative work, and the hours were not what was promised. I was hired as a pt employee (20-25 hrs), and I applied for pt for a reason. Yet, from my first day I never worked below 37 hours, and never left at my scheduled time (literally). I also was told I would have a full weekend off every month, but in over 3 months I only had 1 full weekend off. That would be fine, but if that is the reality then tell my that, don't make promises that you can't keep just to get me to say yes. Also, the administrative team is understaffed and, as mentioned, does not get adequate direction from leadership- priorities always change. As I stated in my exit paperwork- if everything is a priority, then nothing is a priority. There is also high turnover in large part because they hire too quickly and don't ensure that they are hiring the best fit for the position.
