Pros

As a manager you actually have a lot a freedom to be creative to come up with ways to be successful. You get a lot of training and you get to work with your teams to successful. There are a lot of good benefits and rewards working there.

Cons

The company puts more value in hiring young college grads with no experience over seasoned retail veterans. I saw the company go from being focused on brands to focus on discounts. Stores became messy.

Pros

decent pay, vacation time, good resume builder.

Cons

Working in the Macy's corporate office is like nothing I have ever experienced at previous companies (and I have worked for several retailers). The culture is horrific; upper management is all in it for themselves and treats assistants/associates extremely poor. I came into the EDP program so excited to be there and work for Macy's Corporate but it was NOTHING I had ever expected it to be. Supervisor support is extremely poor. Quality of work is not valued, instead you get in trouble for minor, irrelevant instances. WAY too many office politics. All the directors (buyers, digital merchants, VPs) that got to their level got there by selling their soul to corrupt values and morals of the company. In my short time at the company, WAY too many assistants and associates have quit due to poor company culture and supervisor support, to the point where HR was raising suspicions/rolling out extended benefits to try to keep talent. Unfortunately, nothing they can do solves the real issues. What does this say about the company? Wondering why Macy's is constantly filling 200+ Merchant Executive Development Program positions per year? Because nearly EVERY assistant leaves this company after about a year. Keep on wasting money training people that leave for better jobs/companies due to the internal chaos. Absolute insanity.

Pros

Great work life balance Good technical exposure Good for opportunity for learning Summer fridays

Cons

There is a strong communal preference for promotions. You have to be either part of that communal group or manager's favorite to get promoted. Same set of people get promoted frequently. Hiring bar is very low. They hire a lot of mediocre engineers. Benefits are worst. Expensive health plans. Leadership lacks vision. High politics between teams.
