Pros

- Good pay - Flexible hours - Good Cancellation Policies - Able to pick up a bunch of extra classes as standby

Cons

Okay, so I have been working at Magic Ears for about two months. I had 3 years teaching experience prior to this. I wanted to discuss a increased starting pay since I had more experience than a straight up new teacher, but they wanted me to prove that I had taught a certain number of classes in order to qualify for the $1 increase. I was pressured into signing quickly with the understanding that I would make up for it with all these bonus incentives and high booking rates. NOT TRUE. My booking rates have been terrible, and the only reason I'm scraping by is because of the standby classes that I'm able to pick up. On the other hand, their feedback is ridiculous and demoralizing. I'm all about constructive criticism, but sometimes it's also nice to give some positive feedback as well. Every time I heard from their training department, they knit picked at how I hadn't smiled for a 2 second period, wasn't enthusiastic enough, that I didn't have enough props (which I had to use my own personal funds to go buy decorations and materials to make them with), or my timing was off on slides. Honestly, the list could go on. I have tried to make adjustments and nothing seems to make them happy unless you're bouncing off the walls.

Pros

It is Flexible. That is all

Cons

If you like micromanaging this is the place for you. You are nit picked and criticized on a daily basis from how you look to how you speak. They suggested " voice coaching" because they don't like my voice. I cant change that. They make up " industry standards" that do not actually exist in the real world and try to train you to follow these made up methods. Their pay is much lower then they advertise. You are not a teacher, you are an entertainer. Get ready to be a clown all day long. They also like to switch classes at the last second and then not pay you for cancellations. They stalk facebook and other sites looking for negative reviews of themselves and then delete them. They also fire those teachers. I have worked for 6 ESL companies and this one is be far the worst. I refuse to teach for them due to their insane policies. They lock you out of your account for any little thing they dont like ( Like not smiling for 2 seconds, breathing too heavy, coughing in class, etc).
