Pros

One of the highest paying ESL companies. Understanding of illness or emergencies.

Cons

Teachers are highly micromanaged. Staff is overly involved with social media groups. Teachers aren’t allowed to create groups (eg. “ME single moms”, “ME homeschoolers”) without a staff member being a part of the group. They guarantee bookings, but you have to move up in their ranking system in order to increase bookings. This ranking system does not seem to be understood my most teachers (how and when you rank up, etc.) They appear to show favoritism to certain “star teachers.” Classes are not confirmed until 10 pm Beijing time each day, so teachers don’t know their schedules until <24 hours before their first class of the day. Teachers are required to log in 8-10 minutes before their first class of the day, which makes it difficult to work for another company in conjunction with Magic Ears. They have a “Zero tolerance for noise” policy that is nearly impossible to achieve with 4 students in a class. They allow ONLY positive comments and questions about the company in their social media groups. I have seen people get kicked out of groups for mildly challenging or questioning certain things.

Facebook is only a small part of Magic Ears, and it's always called a helpful and friendly community. People share the work and life there and support each other. You could see both sad and happy news there. Our staffs will manage only the official group. For unofficial group, If you search the facebook, you will see there're lots of Magic Ears unofficial groups, we actually encourage teachers to create various groups! You're also welcome to create if you'd like to. Our requirements about entering the classroom early is, if you could enter 8 mins for first class of that day, you will get extra $1 bonus for all the classes you teach. And if you don't want the bonus, enter 5 mins early or inform us ahead of time and enter at least 2 mins early is fine. I'm sorry for the miscommunication, and if you have any more questions, you're welcome to e-mail teacher@mmears.com.
