Pros

There are a few pros: the benefits aren't bad (except, they keep raising their health insurance premiums that already have outrageous deductibles and there is a health card that MG and the employee contribute to and can be used to help slightly offset medical expenses); Earn time is reasonable; Wellness program (you can recoup some of that money lost from meager raises for the last 6 years); and the opportunity to help people.

Cons

As an employee with almost 15 years in (yes, I've been there that long because I have a family to take care of and bills to pay; and MG has the monopoly in healthcare in just about all of the Kennebec Valley Region), I've found that the employees who claim they are completely happy with the company --- who state MG has no cons whatsoever, touts the company as the best company to work for in the region 100% --- are usually in some kind of managerial or supervisory position. It's interesting to note that this person did not reveal their position in the company. And why not --- with a kool-aid high filled ray of sunshine of a review like that? (My position is not revealed because I'm not a manager or supervisor. In my department, I've seen numerous managers, providers (MD's, PA's, NP's), as well as other clinical and clerical staff come and go (most have left the company). MG seems to have a very difficult time recruiting and retaining staff. A definite red flag for prospective employees. Also, the culture is one of working under worry and fear (of doing something wrong, or that no matter how good you are or how hard you work, management is just waiting for you to screw up). Not a healthy environment and creates a lot of stress and anxiety in staff. It seems at least 3/4 of staff working for MG are medicated for anxiety and stress related to their work.

Pros

Patients are wonderful to serve. Great facility! Super Technology! Lovely cafeteria with great food. Some really nice people are in the front lines.

Cons

Senior Management says they're interested in you as an employee. But really, they don't care. Then, when at-least one of their administrative directors are allowed to bully and perpetuate a hostile work environment, it's the wild-west when human resources is involved. What they are allowed to do because of the unwritten rule is horrible. Please, if you can avoid it, please don't work at MaineGeneral. People are treated as objects, and not as people. I felt sick on a daily basis to come to work there. I finally left because I was treated poorly and not at all valued or respected by my direct manager. And their behavior was and is allowed to persist, despite formal complaints. Pay is barely enough and benefits stink. It's not worth it.
