I worked at MarineMax for a few years and was laid off due to "economic" downturn. They also laid other employees off, one of whom who had worked there for almost 30 years. I was told my position was being completely eliminated. I later found out that they were re-hiring for my same position only at a lower salary so it seems that the REAL reason why I got laid off was because they wanted to hire someone for cheaper. I find them to be very disloyal (after 3 years didn't expect much consideration given to me) but others who had spent their entire careers there were let go as well. Also, they claim that your salary comes with commission but I only saw about 2 commission checks in the entire 3 years I was there. It all depends on how well the particular location does and needless to say, in this economy, no one does that well. You also get laid off for 2 o 3 months during the winter months so although you do get unemployment, you have to deduct that downtime from your actual salary. What they SAY you are going to make and what you ACTUALLY made are completely different. They are also dishonest - they will "fudge" work to make their monthly numbers higher. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone unless you can afford to have a job where there is no security and you might be laid off if they decide they can hire someone cheaper.
