Pros

Great place to work. Excellent work-life balance even though compensation might not be extremely high. Discounts on hotel rooms and other benefits too.Nice people who tend to stay with the company for a long time; many opportunities for promotion.

Cons

Travel industry is tumultous and there were layoffs in the downturn. Emphasis on promoting and developing from within can be intimidating to newcomers.

Pros

Marriott has a very positive reputation and they live up to that reputation. They have a strong focus on their employee's moral and well being. They are avid proponents of promoting from within and treating people well. Fantastic benefits including, of course, very cheap hotel rooms all over the world at any of Marriott's 20+ brands.

Cons

The primary 'downside' is the same downside you will find with other hospitality companies - pay. It is not great compared to other, equally demanding, professions. Also, depending on your position, you can work very long hours at very 'off' times. Keep in mind that hotels NEVER CLOSE therefore, someone is always working and that might be YOU.

Work/Life balance needs improvement

Pros

The hotel discount is a truly great benefit. As an IT professional you will get to work with the latest and greatest technologies.

Cons

The balance between work and life is non existent for associates in operations. On call duties are grueling. In addition to on call, the majority of systems work must be performed during the night and weekends. Salaries are not competitive with the rest of the market, especially given the demands of the positions.
