Pros

The company offers your a gas card and van you can take home (for $40.00 a week out your paycheck). They off an HSP package which permits premium DTV packaging at a fraction of the cost. 401k and descent Healthcare coverage. The company also provides you most of the tools you will need. The pay is good if your willing to sacrifice all aspects of your personal life.

Cons

Once you start at MastecAT you stop being a human and become a number on sheet and nothing more. Management seems not involved or just doesn't care. Supervisors who could never handle the word load the Techs are under are the first to claim your hard work as their doing and also the first to scold you for not picking up the slack of others. It also seems that only the "bad" techs are the ones promoted just to get them out the field so their bad numbers don't affect the office. There is no reason for advancement. Advancing to Supervisor from Field Tech is actually a pay cut and a sizable one at that. The only pay increase you get is by moving up from Supervisor to Site Manager(Office Manager). The pay at MastecAT can be good if your willing to ignore your personal life entirely. You are paid for "what you do" and not "how long you spend to get there". It is not unusual to spend 6-10 hours of your day just driving from location to location in which case you are not paid for so your 12-16 hour day you are only getting paid for 4-6 hours of it. If you break that down into hourly you will find that you are just making minimum wage if not a little more. Pay cuts are often and demand for better quality is abundant. When I first started with MastecAT the "AVERAGE" tech was making descent money, by the time I left MastecAT the "EXPERT" tech was making descent money but slowly going insane from the constant pressure/drive. The amount of stress you put on both your mind and body is unconscionable. The work is hard. You work in the Rain, Shine or Snow. It can be a thunderstorm with torrential downpour and you are expected to peak a Dish in it. It can be 100 plus degrees outside with 99% humidity and you are expected to pick up the pace. It can be negative degrees outside and you are expected to deal with it. I only recommend this kind of work to young bodies with solid minds. You are expected to deal with increasingly madder customers who have been lied to by the call centers (you are the one expected to tell them they were lied to and keep them happy given your numbers count on it). You are expected to take the pay cuts with a smile on your face. You are expected to use the equipment they provide you (Most vans are barely functioning, most tools are broken, most the cell phones don't work and most the areas you are in you have no cell service to activate your equipment) without complain and a smile on your face. You are expected to do whatever your supervisors ask you to do no matter how dangerous or unethical it may be. You are expected to be at your first job by 8:00AM no matter if it is 2 hours from your home/starting location. In your weekly "team" meetings you'll be constantly put down by management as if all you endure and continue to press forward just isn't enough and your a terrible employee. If one person slacks the team is punished. You are constantly put down. Between Management and Supervisors constantly ruining your day you will begin to fantasize about jumping off the ladder and breaking a leg just to make it end. Overall if you come to work at MastecAT I hope and pray you are able to balance it better than the rest of us. Your body and mind can only endure so much punishment for so long before you hit that breaking point.

Pros

If you are or become good, you can make pretty good money. The work is mostly steady as the DTV products often out performs many of its competitors. You get a HSP account with DTV which offers a premium channel package at a deeply discounted rate. They also provide work Van, which is GPS tracked in its every move, so don't think it will replace your personal vehicle. A Galaxy Note phone, with company software preloaded, txt disabled, data limited & tracked and controlled by company. Again, won't replace personal phone as you are to use it strictly for work purposes. Other discounts available across telecommunications, auto, hotel companies affiliated with Mastec.

Cons

The piece rate system only good for those who stay focused on being productive 100% of the time. This may contradict company rules as you are responsible to bring each and every job up to company standards. Some areas have been riddled with contractors, who cut every corner possible. Now it's on you to redo their horrific work on your dime. You just can't make money that way so therefore if you do try to make money, you risk write ups or termination for not fixing jobs properly. You will also be faced with longtime customers who don't want you to bring a job up to code. Then what??? Arguing just gets you nowhere leaving you, again, with no money made if job not completed. OSHA rules have also changed over the years requiring fall protection equipment if you need to leave ladder to access the satellite. 9 out of 10 customers don't want to hear that you have to install a 2nd satellite on their roof and supervisors will not be happy if u drag them to the field to provide the fall protection equipment. Since supervisors have a hand in your route, it's best to stay on their good side if you want to make good money. The long and the short of it is, I've never seen or heard of fall protection being used on any job in the years since the rule changed. EVER! So go on the roof, don't fall & don't get caught or you will be fired! To me, not the way I want to go about my life knowing I must risk my life or job to make money. Mastec really likes to take advantage of every loophole and has been sued, and lost, in the past. Just use google and you will see. They will push as far as the law allows often resulting in varying rules from state to state. I personally have been awarded payment for something, was told to sign off that I received the check, only to find out that I signed my rights away by accepting the money. Shady if you ask me. Just to top it off you are often reminded that you work for a subcontractor. Most of your day to day issues are the result of the client so therefore nobody can change that at Mastec. You get a lot of " Sorry, there's nothing we can do about it." Most recently, a pay cut. Not just a group of Tech's but across the board. With business booming, customers bills in the increase, and job quality and expectations as high as I've seen since the beginning, we are told that we must accept less money for the hard work we do. So where does that money go??? Who knows. I personally have pay sheets from a decade ago and the rate is virtually the same. You want a raise, do more work!!!

Pros

Everything about MasTec seems "wonderful" on paper. Good pay; good process in place to advance. People next to you are experiencing the same thing you are.

Cons

What a mess. 19 months there and two VP's; four directors and three managers; Seems no one wants to be there. Zero support from leadership and HR is no where to be found - EVER!
