**Review for MasTec Advanced Technologies**
I had high hopes when I joined MasTec Advanced Technologies, especially with the promises of growth opportunities and travel experiences. Unfortunately, my time there was far from what I expected. Despite being assured of upward mobility, I found that numerous employees were leaving the company, making it nearly impossible for anyone to advance. This high turnover rate—an astonishing 90-95% at my location—was a clear indicator of the underlying issues within the organization.
The equipment provided was often inadequate for the job at hand. For instance, attempting to fit an 85-inch TV into a work van already filled with tools was not only impractical but also highlighted the lack of proper resources. Additionally, lifting equipment was not supplied, even though we frequently handled heavy items, which raised serious safety concerns.
I was promised travel opportunities but only traveled once in my year and a half with the company. My paychecks were artificially inflated due to the grueling 60-70 hour workweeks I was forced to put in. The piece rate compensation model left my hourly wage insufficient to sustain a living without excessive overtime. Moreover, I found the scrutiny over my hours clocked to be excessive, with certain tasks met with what I would describe as unethical compensation practices.
Despite my dedication and hard work, consistently going above and beyond, I saw no progress in my career or any increase in pay. The micromanagement was not just prevalent; it was extreme and often unbearable. After raising concerns about safety practices—particularly regarding working during a state of emergency due to a historic hurricane—I noticed immediate changes in how I was treated. Instead of taking my concerns seriously, management's attitude shifted, subjecting me to increased scrutiny over my work hours and performance. Tasks that were previously acknowledged as completed without issue suddenly became points of contention, leading to uncomfortable discussions about my productivity.
Additionally, my average hourly pay began to decrease, which was perplexing given that my work ethic had not changed. It felt as though I was being penalized for speaking up, exacerbated by the fact that I had consistently been a high performer. The management's response created an atmosphere of distrust, making me hesitant to voice any future issues—whether they pertained to safety or pay.
On one occasion, when I expressed my exhaustion after a long shift, I was met with dismissive comments from my supervisor. Instead of understanding my need to prioritize my safety and well-being, I was discouraged from discussing my fatigue, adding to the stress of my role. This culture of silence and fear of reprisal stifled any open dialogue about critical safety issues.
Moreover, the micromanagement became even more pronounced after I spoke up. I found myself being monitored closely, with my every action scrutinized, creating a sense of anxiety that made it difficult to focus on my work. The environment became less about collaboration and more about compliance, with management often treating employees as expendable resources rather than valued team members.
Overall, my experience at MasTec Advanced Technologies was disheartening. The management, lacking empathy, often treated employees as mere dollar signs rather than individuals with lives outside of work. While every company aims for profitability, it should not come at the expense of its workers' dignity and safety. I cannot recommend this company to anyone seeking a supportive or healthy work environment.
