Pros

It was a corporate job. Relatively easy work with regular hours and nothing too challenging. Management was pleasantly accommodating to help ensure a good work-life balance.

Cons

It's saddled with a very deeply ingrained bureaucracy which, while necessary for their line of business, heavily influences the corporate culture. The company is very much "this way sorta works, let's not touch anything and hope it continues to work".

Pros

If you're willing to put in the time, there's actually room to grow, get paid, and move up. Many of the niche teams have great synergy and if you're in western massachusetts, it's tough to beat.

Cons

Management has no idea what the rest of the company is doing. Decisions are made in a vaccum, teams don't talk to each other, and politics are debilitating.

Pros

Excellent structure and knowledge available. There is a comprehensive set of resources to learn about the products.

Cons

Serving as a Financial Services Representative or Financial Advisor? You are in business for yourself, by yourself. Anyone can learn about product, but it's only about finding and closing prospective clients. Granted conditions have been very difficult over the past couple years, but this task is extremely difficult. Sales managers present a completely unrealistic projection of how hard it is to even make money, much less meet sales numbers. The majority of sales managers could not meet the numbers they lure with in recruiting. They play the numbers of a revolving door. It was funny to see so much emphasis on product when prospecting is the key. Referral generating concepts look great on paper, but only few can gain traction from these approaches.
