Sinking ship

Pros

- Lots of great (world class talent) people still left...for now - Decently flexible with hours - Base compensation

Cons

- The company is dead. It got consumed by Mastercard, which doesn't know anything about engineering or engineers - New benefits are completely non competitive There is no Applied Predictive Technologies. Mastercard kept the name, culture, and policies around just long enough to get through recruitment season and gobble up as much great talent as they could - by using current employees to recruit heavily to a company that wouldn't exist shortly after offers were accepted. I feel horrible about what I have done on behalf of the company lying to so many students, even if I fully believed all the great things I said during recruitment season. We didn't know better and recruited based on working with world class talent, a small agile team, flat structure, great benefits, collegiate atmosphere and culture, etc. All of these things have been swept away before those hires will join. Nearly every time I talk to co-workers outside of work (or even in the office in hushed tones) it is about exit plans and mourning the loss of the company we once loved to work at.

Pros

Good pay, great benefits, but I work 60 to 70 hours a week because of the lack of knowledge of so many new people. In order to become more global they open new offices and let go of a lot of knowledge before its was transferred.

Cons

I have a large paycheck but not enough time to enjoy it. The company relies heavily on contractors and off shoring. It's very annoying to see citizens of the U.S. losing their jobs to people that are not citizens here.

Stable but political and short term focused

Pros

Mastercard is a stable company that treats their employees well - incredible 401k match and there are many smart people that work here. Recognizable name for resume and a good place to start your career

Cons

There are essentially two groups at Mastercard - the folks who value stability and are lifers and those who join after buying the positioning of MA being an innovative company and leave within 3 years. In my experience, if you are looking to be inspired it will be hard to find within the EVP leadership team who are political and not strategic thinkers. Constant priority churn to try to meet short term revenue targets and try to make ROI from the train wreck of acquisitions done over the course of the last few years, a complete lack of vision in what should be the more innovative teams, silos abound as does busywork and inside out thinking, and despite talk of transparency and working together there is little to no leadership to fulfill that vision - but plenty of name dropping of who talked to the CEO or last. Very slow moving technology process that will drive anyone coming from an actual agile organization mad and severely outdated business processes that will be unrecognizable for anyone coming from a high growth SAAS company
