Pros

- Great, intelligent people to work with - Decent work-life balance (nice to have gym on campus, etc.) - The company feels "young", which is nice for new graduates

Cons

- Low pay (we shouldn't have to rely on a stakeholder bonus to get a halfway decent salary) - Management is in general pretty awful - Too much emphasis on procedures and bureaucracy - Difficult to get promoted (not based on merit- my manager even told me I just haven't been here long enough)

Pros

Stable revenue stream, no threat of layoffs, decent campus in Natick with some creature comforts (gym, for-pay cafeteria, pastry counter, etc.).Benefits are okay. This company has been around for three decades, and will likely persist for many years to come.

Cons

Sub-par salaries (by a wide margin). BIZARRE corporate culture of micromanagement and fear. Don't say the phrase "Open Source" anywhere. It's taboo. Don't suggest changing systems or procedures that are already in place. That's taboo. Don't refuse to go to ANY company event. The Eye of Sauron will quickly swivel your way. You WILL feel its baleful, needy glare. The CEO is excessively invested in minutiae to a pathological degree. Whether it's the widgets on your desktop system and its power management settings, or the color of the walls in the hallway, he has a strong opinion about it. I didn't believe the story about him setting guidelines for mounting clocks in conference rooms based on the position of screws in the whiteboards... until I heard about it from multiple coworkers. This place will stress you out while paying less than any other company would consider reasonable. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Pros

1. The company makes a well known widely used product. 2. The offices in Natick are really nice, with nice cafeteria and gym on-site. 3. Good benefits, such as 6/6 401k match.

Cons

1. Ridiculous management: the process is so loaded down and wastes obscene numbers of engineer-hours in forms. There are two entirely separate tracking systems that have to be filed for every new feature. 2. Silly performance review process that uses bad tools--it takes forever to fill out the badly designed self-review form and no-one looks at it anyway. 3. Salaries 20-30 percent lower than industry average.
