Pros

I've been working for MathWorks more than 4 years. Great people, stable products, and a healthy work life balance.

Cons

If you don't need to learn new programming languages, don't need to learn how to develop distributed systems, or don't need to learn modern Dev/Ops, this is a great company for retirement. Otherwise working for the company for a long time may leave you behind in the modern era, because the company's main products are supposed to be installed and run on a standalone machine. You don't get to work on modern technologies other companies such as Netflix, Uber, or Airbnb have been using. Read engineering blogs or watch tech talks to see if you are keeping up with latest technologies: if not, you'll soon find yourself outdated in software industry.

Cons

0. Strict "facetime" policy (no I'm not talking about 1. Middle managers have their fiefdoms and turf-wars through proxies 2. Credit sharing depends on boss 3. Middle to upper management is old-boys club, and they know best
