Pros

Stable and fair. The company takes care of the employeers. Your career development are taken seriously and is documented. The opinion of your co-workes that your interact with have a part in your opportunity for growth and promotion. The company culture is very open and horisontal. Access to upper management is very easy.

Cons

There are sometimes too many processes. Things do not happen over night. You have to be patient and wait for changes. it should not take that long to inforce changes. The decision making within the company is too centralized. The different culture differences in other countries is not taken in to consideration when changes are made.

Pros

If you choose to, it is easier to maintain work-life balance at MathWorks. You get to work with some very smart people at this company. Mathworks is a private company and as a result, the owner's philosophy has a lot of impact on the future of the company. Jack Little has vision.

Cons

Vision alone is not enough, implementation is equally important. This is where things break down in MathWorks as management is ineffective. Most of the managers have rosen from within the company and as a result, cliques are very common which makes the atmosphere too political and resistant to change. Also, poor time management skills are not uncommon among senior level managers. MathWorks doesn't seem to believe in firing inept people, as a result, you will come across many mid-level employees who are under-performers and would try to ensure that the new employees in the company underperform as well. This hampers the career advancement of employees who report to the mid-level managers and prevents the company, as a whole from responding quickly to the changing nature of the industry.

Pros

This is a company committed to long term goals and organic growth, and not seeking short term profit. It has a very nice friendly atmosphere where your personal growth is strongly encouraged. Offers good benefits and treat employees with respect.

Cons

It is a bit like a club - either you are in or out. During 25 years of organic growth, the company has developed a very unique consensus-oriented culture and decision making process is very complex and slow. Some people couldn't make this adjustment.
