Pros

The Mathnasium curriculum is very effective at teaching students math. The process through which work hours are created is fair and transparent. There are plenty of opportunities to network in the education field. The small group environment allows instructors to effectively track student progress. There is a routine to instruction which makes the day flow very nicely. I have thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted from my time working at Mathnasium. I have met many great people who are or were instructors, center directors, and franchise owners. I am very proud that I had the opportunity to work with these people. I am a much more capable and competent Math Teacher because of my experience working with them.

Cons

The work environment is great, but Mathnasium Corporate should dedicate more resources to developing and increasing compensation for employees. This will guarantee the high-quality instruction expected from Instructors and Center Directors.

Pros

If you like working with students, that aspect of the job is great. There are lots of incentives to reward student work and growth.

Cons

Scheduling is abominable. My manager will put out the weekly schedule after 5pm on Sunday evening. It makes it hard to schedule appointments or make plans during the week when I don't know until the last minute when I have to work. I was led to believe during interviews that I would be getting around 30 hours a week during the summer. Nope; we are open 30 hours a week, but I have only been put on the schedule for 8-12 hours a week. The pay is low for a tutoring job compared to other tutoring companies in my area. Sometimes, I will be asked to clock out if there are not enough students in the center (e.g. if students cancel). That means I lose out on some of the (already scant) hours that I'm getting. Other times, I will be asked to stay past my scheduled hours if students arrived to their sessions late. Sometimes I will get a text less than half an hour before my scheduled shift starts asking me to come in 30 minutes to an hour later. My availability has been ignored several times. Mandatory meetings are sometimes scheduled outside of normal working hours with less than 24 hours notice. Availability is ignored for events outside of normal operating hours and attendance at these events is mandatory. I will probably not keep this job past the summer. I'll update my post with the location at that time.

Pros

Great team work and just a fun working environment overall.

Cons

They were a bit too lax with rules so there'd be a lot of work to make up sometimes.
