Pros

The job is very formulaic so you don't need to be particularly adaptable. It could be a good job for high school students or undergraduates who needs little extra cash, and no one else

Cons

The Mathnasium methods are extremely flawed. Rather than promoting intrinsic interest in math, the centers offer Chuck E Cheese style prizes to students. This reinforces the idea that math is inherent difficult and painful. There is no repetition of lessons. Students are assumed to have learned something after they complete the lesson on it. Of course in reality, they tend to forget. There is no deviation from the prescribed company learning plans. The job does not transfer well or have opportunities for upward growth. The pay is abysmal for anyone other than a high school student or maybe an undergraduate.

Pros

Helping students overcome barriers in math by motivating them with stars and a prize cabinet is so much fun. There are always toys and candy at work, which is a small perk to the job. Also we work hard to show students the fun of math. Theme weeks for extra stars, and making making a big difference in the student's future is very rewarding.

Cons

I thought working for a "for-profit" style education would mean the pay is better. Mathnasium is a franchise which can cause a lot of overhead costs for the local owners. This equates to challenging pay and benefits because it's a small business overall. Also many ACD are given the responsibilities of Center Director but the pay does not equal the responsibility. I found the stress to be even worse than working for public schools sadly.

Pros

You never have to leave work. It follows you wherever you go.

Cons

You'll be asked to use your personal cell phone and computer to engage in their business and install an app that tracks your personal activity on your phone and computer. Additionally, the phone will ring off the wall while your not at the center so I wouldn't exactly call it "part time work". They call meetings before your normal work hours unpaid because your salary.
