Pros

-Flexible part-time scheduling -Full-time available, did not need another job to support myself -Salaried position available with advancement -Great work environment if you like children -Get to sleep in everyday because its afternoon work -Good co-workers -Learned a lot about managing a business, managing an office, managing customers, and supporting education for the students. -Pays better than most other part-time or full time entry level positions. Pays better than most other Mathnasiums also. -Decent job to start from out of college or if your are retired. -Work with many different online databases and software. I worked there for 3 years. It was my first job out of college. You need a college degree to work at this Mathnasium. While in college I worked at a bank. I constantly was hassled by customers who lost money and what-not. Very depressing work with no support. This job not only paid the same as my banking position, but was way more fun and interesting. Few dull moments with kids involved. I taught all grade levels from 1st grade to Calculus. I eventually became the Assistant Director. This gave me an opportunity to handle many of the business related aspects of the job. Definitely a resume booster.

Cons

-Must work a weekend day to be full time -Must work six days a week to be full time (its after school hours work, so maximum is a seven hour workday) -No benefits (go get Obama-Care)

Pros

The best thing about working as a Tutor/Instructor at Mathnasium is having a direct impact on youth education by working intimately with children, and similar to that, building relationships with the children. By the end of my 7 months working for the local franchise, I felt like a strong role model to the children I worked with regularly, and that was personally very rewarding. Also, the hours were very flexible and worked well with a student's schedule or someone with another day job. My supervisor, the local franchise owner, was very warm and personable, which made it very easy to work with her.

Cons

Because tutoring mainly takes place after school during the week, I was only able to get 15 hours of work, maximum (3 hrs a day, M-F). Additionally, the maximum hourly pay that the owner could offer me was about half of what I would be making as a private tutor. In the end, I made very little in wages from this job, not nearly enough to support myself.

Pros

Mathnasium was one of the most rewarding positions I've had. I loved working with the students and witnessing their improvement. Prior to teaching at Mathnasium, I worked in an office and-- although the math is simple-- it's great to have a position in which you can actually use your brain and math skills. Fellow employees, the center director, and the owner were all wonderful. There were only one or two issues with parents, but that's expected in any work environment.

Cons

The pay was really low; I wouldn't have been able to get by on my Mathnasium wage alone. The hours revolve around school hours, so the business is only open a few hours each day, which doesn't provide a sufficient opportunity to work longer to compensate for the low wage.
